Why your posts stop being recommended

The short version

Some content stays up but won't be shown to non-followers. On Instagram, Account Status tells you if that's happening.

What it means for you

Instagram's Recommendation Guidelines list content that may not be recommended: sensitive topics like violence or sexually suggestive content, regulated products like tobacco, vaping, adult products and weight loss, low-quality reposts with minor edits, long captions unrelated to the content, coordinated comment networks, and fact-checked false content.

Accounts may not be recommended for recent violations, profile fields that break the rules, bought likes or follows, an ads ban, repeated false ratings, or photorealistic AI people without the AI-generated profile label.

If the account itself isn't eligible, none of its content is recommended, though followers still see it.

✓ Do

  • Check Settings > Account Status > 'Can your content be recommended?'
  • Request a review if a post was wrongly flagged.

✕ Don't

  • Assume 'shadowbanned' without checking the status screen.
